About This Tour
Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest peak, is a treasure trove of adventure and natural beauty. With its three distinct summits—Batian, Nelion, and Point Lenana—this iconic mountain caters to both experienced mountaineers and casual trekkers. Batian and Nelion challenge seasoned climbers with technical rock climbs, while Point Lenana offers a less demanding trail, ideal for hikers seeking stunning sunrise views. The mountain’s diverse landscapes, from verdant forests to alpine moorlands, provide a habitat for unique flora and fauna, making it a must-visit for nature lovers.
Gemfinders Safaris invites you to explore Mount Kenya through meticulously planned trekking experiences. With professional guides and personalized itineraries, your journey will be both safe and unforgettable. Whether you seek the thrill of scaling peaks or a tranquil hike through breathtaking scenery, Gemfinders Safaris ensures every detail is tailored to create a memorable adventure.
Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from Nairobi, heading to Sirimon Gate, the starting point for the trek. The Sirimon Route is a gradual ascent, which offers scenic views of the lush forest filled with diverse plant and animal life. After a 3-4 hour hike, you will reach Old Moses Camp (3,300m), where you’ll rest and have dinner, preparing for the next day's climb.
On the second day, you’ll trek from Old Moses Camp to Shipton's Camp (4,200m). This 6-8 hour hike takes you through a changing landscape, from forest to moorland and alpine vegetation. Shipton’s Camp is located at the base of the towering peaks of Mount Kenya, offering stunning views and an opportunity to rest before the summit attempt the following day.
The third day starts early with a pre-dawn hike to the summit of Point Lenana (4,985m). This non-technical ascent, though challenging due to the altitude, rewards climbers with breathtaking sunrise views. Once at the summit, you’ll experience panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks and the vast plains below. After taking in the stunning scenery, you will descend back to Shipton's Camp to rest and recover.
On the final day, you will descend from Shipton’s Camp back down the Sirimon Route to Sirimon Gate, taking about 3-4 hours. From here, you will be transferred back to Nairobi, arriving by afternoon or early evening, marking the end of your memorable climb.
