Shimba Hills National Reserve offers a distinctive blend of coastal forest, escarpments, and wildlife just inland from Diani Beach along Kenya’s southern coast. Dense tropical woodland, open glades, and palm-lined valleys create an ecosystem that feels completely different from the open savannah parks of inland Kenya. This lush habitat supports a unique mix of wildlife, including forest elephants, the rare sable antelope, bushbuck, buffalo, and abundant birdlife. Raptors often ride the updrafts above the escarpments, and on clear mornings the elevated viewpoints reveal sweeping vistas stretching toward the Indian Ocean.
